@rgeMAS System in The Eye of Supervisors

Sebur Candemir – Görkem Giyim Line Supervisor

Could you briefly introduce yourself and your work?

I’m Sebur Candemir. I work as a foreman at Görkem Giyim.

You have recently switched to the @rgeMAS system. Did you have any question marks in your mind especially when installing the bundle (car) system?

Yes, I had question marks in my mind.I was wondering how this car system will be.Because I’ve been doing this job for 24 years and I had my doubts because I didn’t work with such a system. But when starting working with the bundle system, there were quite few changes.

What was the product movement like in the past? How does the product work in the bundle (car) system?

When I installed the line before, for example, if I was installing a shirt line, I would install the sleeve, collar, placket groups and cuff separately. In other words, there were 5-6 separate operations in a line. There were a lot of waitings in the line. Without exaggeration, there were times when I did not work for two days on some heavy models. But after @rgeMAS system, after the old model went off from the line, I can remove the new product from behind.Sometimes we don’t even waste any time. Something it happens that both models in a row come out one after the other.

How do you create the bundle system?

We put all the parts that make up a product inside a car. This happens in certain quantities that vary according to the product. I set up the line accordingly, and the line input should be in one place.

For example, if my ironer is vacant on the line, I can give a collar, cuff or another job. Whatever job is appropriate, I give it to the vacant ironer. Even if there is a machinist in the band, I give him a suitable job.

Previously, I allocated one operator for operations such as cuff matching, sleeve matching, collar matching and belt matching. But now it’s not like that, all the parts of a product are inside the car.If there are 15 products (all parts of the product) in the car, he takes them and puts them on. Now I don’t use anyone for mapping. The 6-7 people I used for product matching were vacant and we put these people on the machine.

How it benefits with bottleneck management?

We can now see bottlenecks more easily instantly. We interfere immediately. For example, we can immediately assign another job to the waiting operator. I can describe and get it made and open that bottleneck.

Is half man easy to use? How you proceed it?

It’s very easy. For example, I gave the collar an operator. The operator finishes his work in 45 minutes, which I estimate to do in 1 hour.Since 15 minutes of this operator will be free, I can give this person 15 minutes of work. When there was no @rgeMAS system, I could not employ that person.I was picking it up and taking it to a remote location. Now I say to the operator, “You have 15 minutes of free time. Apart from your own 15-minute job every hour, do this job.”It is already clear from the system what job the operator is doing. The system is correct. In this sense, it is a very correct system. If he works for 9 hours, 9 cars (bundle) are doing an additional job besides his own job. That’s why I use 1.5 people very easily in this system.

Can you train joker workers?

Yes, we can train. For example, today I set up a jeans band for the first time. I can’t get approval for 105 trousers that went to the wash. Currently, 80 people are working in the band that I am in charge of. While I had to sew these jeans with 80 people, I was able to sew them with 25 people. My other model continues to be sewn on the line.I gave people 2 or 3 different jobs in the line.By sending work to the washing machine, I both secured my job and my line was not vacant.

Are you sitting at the machine more before or after @rgeMAS to get work done?

After the @rgeMAS system came, I can say that I never sit on the machine to do work. I used to work on the machine to train jobs before.

Do you have problems with matching parts and missing parts after installing the @rgeMAS system?

No, we definitely don’t. All parts of the product are already in the bundle.

Do you use the vehicle to transport products?

Before there was a system, I was forced to do this. Especially for matching. But right now I’m not doing it as all the stuff is in the car. And the operator is working to the fullest. I just talked about the 15-minute gaps. We can fill those gaps.

How do you track quality in @rgeMAS system?

There are process controllers in between. He looks at the products made in the car. If there is an error, you will be notified to us and we intervene immediately. We can provide control more easily.

Which reports of @rgeMAS do you use specifically?

We especially follow efficiency reports. We measure time from the operators. For example, he can fix 60 cuffs per hour.In particular, we follow efficiency? As I mentioned before, if the operator has a 15-minute gap per hour, it reads the ‘work waiting barcode’ and informs that it is waiting for a job. And we give him other work and thus increase productivity.

Would you recommend @rgeMAS?

Yes, I recommend it.

Is there anything you want to add?

Before I started this system, I was really had prejudgment towards the system. I had question marks in my mind as how it would be. I was just worried. I have line aids. Before the @rgeMAS system, my assistants used to go to the warehouse and the other to the cutting to bring supplies. To bring missing materials such as tags, string. But with this system, the material handling business has been lifted.Everything is inside the car, including the label, the instruction, the 2D barcode,i want to say, all the materials of the product are inside the car. Because he/she knows what to do, he/she buys and uses the necessary materials. As line supervisors, we spend more time inside the line.
